Freedom for Captives in Thailand | TIPpress
[Mae Sai, Thailand: March 10, 2011] Not For Sale, the international anti-slavery agency, reports that its operation in the north of Thailand intervened earlier this week in the case of three teenage girls trafficked from China. The girls were destined for the commercial sex industry in Chiang Saen, a resort city in the Golden Triangle region of Thailand. The girls have found refuge in a children’s village that the agency runs in the Golden Triangle.
David Batstone Visits Kru Nam in Thailand
In Thailand, stateless ethnic minorities and foreigners are not eligible to receive government provided education, health services, or employment. These marginalized populations face a variety of other serious problems like becoming involved in the trafficking of drugs, illicit goods and people. They lack the ability to protect their young children who often die from preventable diseases and have no access to family planning methods or information regarding how to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and STIs. Parents often sell their children for sexual exploitation out of desperation to survive. Not For Sale in Thailand seeks to address the needs of stateless people, prevent modern-day slavery and protect trafficking survivors.
Not For Sale supports Kru Nam, a thriving artist and modern-day abolitionist who has rescued and prevented over 110 children from slavery in the sex industry. She and her organization, VCDF, runs a Children’s Home providing education, health services, shelter, food and vocational skills to stateless children.
Not For Sale Thailand | We Did It!
Thank you to everyone who partnered with us to make the Global Forum 2010a landmark event!! The conference was an incredible think tank to advance and enable the work of the modern Abolitionist movement. From aftercare to social media, from law enforcement to faith communities, the conversations, connections, and results were astounding.
And the HIGHLIGHT of the 2010 Global Forum….
Kru Nam, the Abolitionist who inspired the Not For Sale Campaign, was surprised by a check for $155,000 to build the desperately needed dormitories for kids rescued out of slavery and situations of extreme vulnerability in Thailand. To add to the excitement…. contributions from the Abolition Concert the night before the Global Forum and a last minute gift of $23,000 from a family foundation put the total for Kru Nam’s kids at an astounding $180,000 — the EXACT amount needed to build the dormitories.
THANK YOU for joining and supporting the Not For Sale Campaign in its mission to enable Abolitionists like Kru Nam and power the modern-day Abolitionist movement.

Beyond the Glamour of Rescue
We love the story of a heroic abolitionist who rescues children from bondage. That’s the easiest part of an anti-slavery movement to “package,” frankly. But what comes after the rescue? Kru Nam, our Thai abolitionist partner, represents the challenge in sharp relief. She has rescued over 125 children from one form or another of captivity. [...]
