Bridging the Gender Equality Gap in India

On December 16th 2012, the world was shaken by the news of a young woman who died after being raped and beaten on a bus in New Delhi India. Although not uncommon in India’s ‘rape capital’, the incident illuminated the extent and nature of abusive crimes against women and triggered weeks of protests across the nation.

Gender inequality is one of the most significant factors contributing to the prevalence of Human Trafficking in India, where it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of women every year are bought and sold for sex and forced labour.


Financial Training Begins In India

This week we are delighted to share the incredible progress that is being made by survivors currently enrolled in personal finances classes, part of the Not For Sale skills training and job placement program in India.


The 95%: A Look At Exploitation In India

Across our international projects around the world, Not For Sale conducts baseline assessments of trafficking and victim rehabilitation. The purpose of these investigations is to capture the true scope of the issue of exploitation so that we may better understand the root causes of trafficking and work to end them.

The women have taken instant ownership of the home and are incredibly proud to be earning and managing their keep.

Not For Sale Provides A Transition Home For Survivors Seeking A New Future

Last week, eight women moved from shelters in Delhi to the Not For Sale transition home. The women were all either survivors of trafficking or highly vulnerable to it. The transition home is part of our larger plan of action in Delhi to provide opportunities of employment for survivors of trafficking in the region, reintegrating them into society.

From India: Job Training Program in Full Swing

In India, Not For Sale is making giant strides towards breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation through a training program that provides vulnerable women with the opportunity to learn marketable job skills alongside our partner, a for-profit factory called OpenHand Design.

Duchess of Cambridge Spotted in a Dress Made at NFS India

This weekend, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, went to a friend’s wedding wearing a beautiful floral print dress by Beulah London. The dress was produced at Not For Sale’s Social Venture in Delhi, India. Beulah London actively works to eliminate exploitation in their supply chain, working with NFS’ partner company, Open Hand, to employ at-risk women.

New Factory Creates New Futures for Survivors in India

Not For Sale recently developed a job and life-skills training program for socially conscious manufacturers, piloted at Open Hand, a for-profit ethical manufacturing company. The program will provide a passage of stability for new employees moving from recovery to re-integration.


From India: Not For Sale Sponsors Innovative New Training Program For Survivors

Not For Sale is sponsoring an innovative new training program in New Delhi, India, which will fully prepare vulnerable people and survivors of modern-day slavery to work with our local enterprise partner Open Hand. Not For Sale is working with Open Hand to develop an on-the-job training program in order to provide survivors of exploitation with competitive and dignified employment alternatives.
