The Duchess of York and SF Giants’ Pitcher Appointed to be NFS Ambassadors

Not For Sale is pleased to announce Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt as the organization’s first ever Ambassadors to Combat Modern Slavery.

The newly established roles will see the Duchess and the baseball hero advocating on behalf of Not For Sale across the globe, supporting the organization’s existing domestic and international projects on four continents.

Both the Duchess and Jeremy, who participated in the recent 2011 Global Forum on Human Trafficking, have been supporters of Not For Sale and the abolitionist movement for sometime.

Commenting on her support for Not For Sale, Sarah, Duchess of York, said: “I am more than honored and totally committed to put an end to human trafficking and devoted to Not For Sale and all that they stand for. It feels strong and steadfast to support Not For Sale, that has robustly and diligently worked its way to be a leader in the abolishment of the slave trade/ human/trafficking by remaining cohesive to its mission statement.”

Jeremy Affeldt also issued a statement about his new role, saying: “I am honored to represent the work Not For Sale is doing across the world. As someone who is living out my childhood dreams, I strongly believe every child should be free to play and dream big, adults should be free to work, and above all, everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.

“I am committed to helping end modern-day slavery, and enhancing the lives of survivors by helping them build a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their communities.”

The Duchess and Mr. Affeldt commence their roles to coincide with the organization’s new ‘Two Gifts in One’ holiday shopping campaign, which is encouraging people to buy gifts at the Not For Sale Store to give both joy to their loved ones and freedom to survivors of human trafficking. All of the proceeds from the campaign will directly support Not For Sale and its international projects.

Founder and President of Not For Sale, Dave Batstone, said, “We’re delighted to have the Duchess and Jeremy Affeldt officially on board. Their passion for the issues will help make a real difference to raise awareness and funds to help end modern-day slavery and free the 30 million people enslaved across the globe, a large percentage of whom are women and children.”

Mr. Batstone recently returned from Not For Sale’s debut 2011 Asia Pacific Forum on Human Trafficking in Chiang Mai, Thailand where he also visited the organization’s local project.

“My visit to Chiang Mai once again brought home the issues facing the millions of people living in bondage in the world.

“While I was encouraged to see the amazing difference that we are making to the lives of survivors at all of our projects, the trip has also made me very aware of how much work remains to be done.

“In 2012 we will be announcing several new high level partnerships and initiatives, which will go a long way towards improving the lives of those being exploited and survivors of human trafficking around the globe,” he said.
