Fashion’s New Focus: Modern-day Slavery

AllSaints Spitalfields launches innovative partnership with Not For Sale to combat the global slave trade.

London, England (September 19th, 2011)—In a new international effort to fight human trafficking and end modern-day slavery, London-based high-end fashion retailer AllSaints Spitalfields has announced the launch of an innovative partnership with the global anti-slavery group, Not For Sale.

This is the first time in history that a major fashion retailer has taken on the issue of modern-day slavery, and Not For Sale is pleased to confirm that the capsule collection marks the beginning of a long-term, integrated partnership.

“In recent years, the fashion world has focused its attention entirely on environmental causes and products,” says David Batstone, President of Not For Sale. “This week’s launch of Not For Sale’s AllSaints partnership represents the unprecedented entrance of a global fashion retailer into the anti-slavery movement – modeling what it looks like for companies to care about the dignity of people.”

The partnership commenced with the launch of a Not For Sale line of T-shirts, designed and produced exclusively by AllSaints. The first capsule line debuted at an exclusive event in London as part of festivities to launch London Fashion Week on Saturday night, and will open across events this Fall in Amsterdam, New York and Los Angeles. Proceeds from the line will benefit Not For Sale’s work to combat human trafficking globally, and products will promote the shared vision of Not For Sale and AllSaints to prevent forced labor and end human trafficking.

Long heralded for its ability to mix culture, fashion and music into lines of apparel, AllSaints is coveted by A-list celebrities and rapidly opening stores across major cities globally. Beginning this week, the Not For Sale line is available for sale in AllSaints stores, as well as online at www.AllSaints.com.

“AllSaints is proud to announce the launch of an innovative long term partnership with international human trafficking group Not For Sale,” says Stephen Craig, AllSaints’ CEO. “Proceeds from the clothes we design, market and sell across our planet will benefit the campaign on a global scale. Together we can end slavery in our lifetime.”

In October, Craig will be a keynote speaker at Not For Sale’s annual Global Forum on Human Trafficking, which will be streamed globally and feature an on-stage showcase of the Not For Sale line.

Not For Sale and AllSaints are further collaborating on a strategic plan that would create employment opportunities in communities at high-risk to human trafficking. This second phase of the partnership is an unprecedented step in utilizing high-end fashion to prevent slavery directly on the ground, and aims to launch with an expanded line in 2012.
