VOTE | Jeremy Affeldt Nominated for his work with Not For Sale

On Tuesday, September 13th, the San Francisco Giants submitted Not For Sale supporter and Free2Play ambassador Jeremy Affeldt as their team’s nomination for the prestigious 2011 Roberto Clemente Award.

The award is named after Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente who played 18 years for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was known not only for being one of the best baseball players of all time, but also for his philanthropic work in areas of need off the field as well. His life was cut short while on a flight to Nicaragua en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims.

This honor is given annually to an MLB player that demonstrates the values Clemente displayed in his commitment to community and understanding the value of helping others. Every September, each club nominates one player from their organization and a winner is selected among the 30 players nominated by fan vote.

The San Francisco Giants have selected Jeremy Affeldt as their 2011 nominee because of his dedicated work off the field, which includes his amazing support of Not For Sale since 2009. Affeldt pledges $250 for every strikeout, save, and hold to help create futures for children affected by human trafficking. To date he has helped raise over $30,000 to help further Not For Sale’s initiatives to this end. Catholic Healthcare West, the official healthcare provider for the Giants, has encouraged fans to take a stand alongside the pitcher and have pledged to match any fan donations for Affeldt, made to Not For Sale, up to $25,000.

This October, Jeremy Affeldt will also be a featured speaker at this year’s Global Forum on Human Trafficking in Sunnyvale, CA. He will share the stage with leaders from around the world who are using their skills and passions in the fight against modern day slavery.

The opportunity for fans to vote for Jeremy Affeldt to win the 2011 Roberto Clemente Award is open as of this week and will continue until the winner is announced during the World Series this fall.
