The SF Giants & Catholic Healthcare West partner with local anti-human trafficking group to promote freedom for kids.

San Francisco, CA (June 21, 2011): Tonight the San Francisco Giants, in partnership with Catholic Healthcare West, will be hosting their second annual Free2Play Night at AT&T Park to support the locally-based anti-human trafficking non-profit, Not For Sale. A special home plate ceremony before the game will feature an introduction from Not For Sale co-founder and president, David Batstone, and will be followed by a short message from Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt about Team Free2Play.

Over the past two years, Affeldt has become increasingly involved in his support of Not For Sale and has used his platform as a 2010 World Champion to raise funds and support for the organization. An advocate for children’s rights, Affeldt serves as an Ambassador of Not For Sale’s Free2Play platform (www.teamfree2play.org ) – a movement enabling athletes of all ages to use their passion to fight slavery.

Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the official healthcare provider of the Giants, has committed for a second year to match Affeldt’s total season pledge — up to $40,000. Pledges and donations that are raised through Affeldt’s and CHW’s efforts will ensure children across the globe are given the freedom to play.

In the 2010 MLB season, Affeldt helped raise over $25,000 for victims of modern-day slavery. By donating $250 for every strikeout thrown, his 4-strikeout performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks this past week contributed $1,000 to the modern-day abolitionist movement.

Bay Area baseball and social justice fans alike are encouraged to attend the ballgame tonight, June 21^st at 7pm to take part in the action. Supporters can follow the progress of the goal set forth by CHW and Jeremy Affeldt over the course of the 2011 MLB season at www.notforsalecampaign.org.
