Thirteen volunteers from all over the world have recently returned from a fruitful six weeks teaching art and music to Peruvian street children. Their efforts have contributed to the work of the NFS Peruvian Abolitionist, Lucy Borja to restore justice to vulnerable communities.

Recently returned volunteer, Joshua Goins, writes of his trip, “it was personally life changing…when we went to Peru we found this group of incredible kids that had been rescued from the streets by a Lucy Borja.”  Lucy Borja epitomizes the modern day abolitionist movement.  Lucy runs an amazing organization called Generación, who provides social services and support to Peruvian street children – she has fought for the rights of these children throughout her life.  Joshua describes Lucy as having the “heart of a mother” and affirms that she was “an inspiration to us all.”  He goes onto say, “[Lucy] spends all of her time and energy fighting for the lives and well being of children living on the streets, children who have no voice…She has given them hope and a sense of dignity.  It was tough to say goodbye and I will never forget these people as long as I live.”

Throughout 2011, Not For Sale is excited to offer a many more volunteer opportunities at a number of its International Projects.  The purpose of these volunteer opportunities is to (literally) bridge the gap between knowledge and action.  Academy graduates will have the unique opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in the field, work alongside amazing abolitionists, become immersed in vibrant cultures and undoubtedly have life changing and ultimately profound experiences.  This year volunteers will have the opportunity to travel to Peru, Uganda, and Thailand!
