Jeremy Affeldt was the first Major League baseball player make a Free2Play pledge!  You can read more about his pledge below.

The Jefferson Award was established with the intention of creating a Nobel Prize for community and public service.  It is given by the All Stars Helping Kids, a nonprofit organization founded by NFL Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott in 1989 “with the goal of promoting a safe, healthy, rigorous learning environment for disadvantaged kids in low-income communities.”

You have until Nov. 15 to vote for Jeremy on the All Stars Helping Kids website.  Five finalists will be chosen in each of two categories: Outstanding Athlete in Service and Outstanding Athlete as a Newcomer in Service. One athlete in each category will be awarded a national Jefferson Award for Public Service next June.  Read more about Jeremy here.

Jeremy’s Free2Play pledge: This season, Jeremy has committed to give $100 to the Not For Sale Campaign for every strike-out he pitches.

The money Jeremy donates will go to support the work Not For Sale is doing to fight slavery across the globe:

In Peru — offering safe haven and care to hundreds of kids formerly trafficked on the dangerous streets of Lima. In Ghana — working to prevent the drowning and abuse of children sold into the local fishing industry. In Thailand — building a medical clinic stocked with $500,000 in needed supplies at our village for children rescued out of sex trafficking in the cities. In Northern Uganda — building schools for former child soldiers, providing the children with safety and education. In Nepal — fighting to prevent the trafficking of thousands of Nepalese women into India’s sex industry, and this year, raising the support needed to build them a medical clinic equipped with $2 million in donated medical supplies. And in Oakland, California, teenage girls rescued from the sex industry now take part in a rollerblade club created with Free2Play gifts.
