The Not For Sale Fellowship

September 28, 2009 Posted by Allison Trowbridge

160jpgIn 2010, a small group of individuals will be selected to participate in the very first Not For Sale Fellowship: a full-time, all-intensive program in which they will work to end modern-day slavery. Are you interested in being among them?

NFS Fellows will advance their education on the issue of human trafficking, gaining invaluable work experience through an intrinsic role in the modern-day abolitionist movement. They will work side-by-side national staff to enhance key programs, initiatives, and platforms central to the Not For Sale Campaign.

Based just outside the city of San Francisco, NFS Fellows will live and work from the stunning shoreline of Half Moon Bay, CA.156jpg

Two Sessions of the Fellowship program are scheduled for 2010:

January 4th – June 25th
July 1st – December 17th

Each Fellow will be placed in a select position specific to their skill-set, education, and passions. Over the course of the Fellowship, they will create a portfolio of the work they accomplish. Tailored projects, research training, and one-on-one time with national staff will advance Fellows’ understanding of the anti-trafficking movement while equipping them to play a substantial role.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, fluent in English, and comfortable living in a group environment. They should be open to meeting rapid deadlines in a highly flexible work environment consisting of both independent and team settings, and come with some background knowledge on the issue of human trafficking. Fellows will be required to raise their own support for the program through the sponsorship of family and friends. Monthly costs, which include room and board, are listed on the application.

This is the first time a Fellowship has ever been offered by the Not For Sale Campaign, and national staffers are thrilled to have the partnership of this select group of individuals. 154jpg

If you are interested in becoming a 2010 Not For Sale Fellow, please submit a request to: Fellowship hailing from notforsalecampaign from the TLD of org. We’ll provide you with Fellowship positions, application, and further details.

We look forward to sharing with you in the coming year about the impact made by our first Not For Sale Fellows. And we hope – perhaps – that you will be among them!

The Team at Not For Sale

Since its founding in 2005 by former President Bill Clinton, more than 80 current and former heads of state; hundreds of leading CEOs, philanthropists, and NGO leaders; and 10 of the last 16 Nobel Peace Prize laureates have attended the Clinton Global Initiative. This year, President Barack Obama and leading voices from every sector will take action on solving four major global challenges: innovation, infrastructure, human capital and the global economy. For more information, visit www.clintonglobalinitiative.org.

Among the many global leaders, Batstone will be joined at CGI by Lou de Baca, ambassador-at-large to monitor and combat trafficking in persons, U.S. Department of State, and David Arkless, president of global corporate and government affairs, Manpower, Inc. Vote for SF Giants Free2Play Pitcher Jeremy Affeldt!

September 3, 2009 Posted by Laura Aguirre

jeremy-affeldtSan Francisco Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt has been nominated for the Jefferson Award for Public Service. Click here to vote for him today!

Jeremy Affeldt was the first Major League baseball player make a Free2Play pledge!  You can read more about his pledge below.

The Jefferson Award was established with the intention of creating a Nobel Prize for community and public service.  It is given by the All Stars Helping Kids, a nonprofit organization founded by NFL Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott in 1989 “with the goal of promoting a safe, healthy, rigorous learning environment for disadvantaged kids in low-income communities.”

You have until Nov. 15 to vote for Jeremy on the All Stars Helping Kids website.  Five finalists will be chosen in each of two categories: Outstanding Athlete in Service and Outstanding Athlete as a Newcomer in Service. One athlete in each category will be awarded a national Jefferson Award for Public Service next June.  Read more about Jeremy here.

Jeremy’s Free2Play pledge: This season, Jeremy has committed to give $100 to the Not For Sale Campaign for every strike-out he pitches.

The money Jeremy donates will go to support the work Not For Sale is doing to fight slavery across the globe:

In Peru — offering safe haven and care to hundreds of kids formerly trafficked on the dangerous streets of Lima. In Ghana — working to prevent the drowning and abuse of children sold into the local fishing industry. In Thailand — building a medical clinic stocked with $500,000 in needed supplies at our village for children rescued out of sex trafficking in the cities. In Northern Uganda — building schools for former child soldiers, providing the children with safety and education. In Nepal — fighting to prevent the trafficking of thousands of Nepalese women into India’s sex industry, and this year, raising the support needed to build them a medical clinic equipped with $2 million in donated medical supplies. And in Oakland, California, teenage girls rescued from the sex industry now take part in a rollerblade club created with Free2Play gifts.
