MP Joy Smith, a continuous voice and advocate for increasing Canadian efforts to confront human trafficking was recently hailed for her leadership.  In an article featured in the Canadian “National Post” Thomas Axworthy commends MP Smith for her continuous work to confront trafficking, “Since arriving in Ottawa, Smith has been the go-to person on the trafficking file. In 2006 she introduced private member’s motion M-153 on human trafficking, which called on Parliament to adopt a comprehensive strategy to combat the trafficking of persons world wide. Her motion was passed unanimously. She has also secured funds for aboriginal groups to prevent the trafficking of native women and children.”  He continuous on by expressing admiration for her latest effort to combat trafficking. “Smith’s bill on mandatory minimums follows the logic of the State Department report, which calls for real and significant jail time for sex traffickers.”
