WELCOME...

...Not for Sale is a campaign of students, entrepreneurs, artists, people of faith, athletes, law enforcement officers, politicians, social workers, skilled professionals, and all justice seekers, united to fight the global slave trade.

Not for Sale aims to educate and mobilize an international abolitionist movement through the innovation and implementation of open-source activism. Inside the United States, the campaign identifies trafficking rings and collaborates with local law enforcement and community groups to shut them down and provide support for the victims. Internationally, the campaign partners with poorly resourced abolitionist groups to enhance their capacity.

Every single person has a skill that they can give to free an individual living in bondage.

WHAT’S HAPPENING...

Map Slavery in your own backyard

Launched: SlaveryMap.org

Bringing down walls. Building bridges. Beginning the process of renewal by shedding light into darkness. With the launch of SlaveryMap.org we hope that Not For Sale’s core ethos of collaboration and collective change continues to grow.

Now you can reach out to local service providers, law enforcement, legal teams, and government officials by using SlaveryMap.org to highlight the work of the modern-day abolitionist at home and across the world. Together we will continue to peel back the veil of modern-day slavery.

Welcome to the movement.

Please Note: If you suspect an existing case of human trafficking DO NOT post it on SlaveryMap. Call the national human trafficking hotline 1-888-3737-888

We Did It!! A Safe House on Myanmar Border

Several weeks ago we alerted you to the urgent need to build a safe house for Burmese children and women. The situation for vulnerable populations inside Myanmar already was dire before the cyclone hit.

Due to your generosity, we have been able to build and completely pay for a new safe house in the Golden Triangle region of Thailand, just miles from the Myanmar border! In the next few days we will be able to host Burmese survivors. Our Thai abolitionist partner, Kru Nam, joins us in expressing deep gratitude to the Not For Sale constituency!

Advocate for trafficking survivors

Advocate for trafficking survivors!

Join the team at Not For Sale in advocating for the rights of trafficking survivors in Washington DC!

The T Visa came into law with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000. It was introduced to protect women, children and men who are survivors of human trafficking. The T Visa is a significant benefit for survivors, yet the legislation does not do enough to protect survivors and has been poorly implemented. If we are going to put an end to slavery within the United States, we must offer protection and a future for the survivors. Join the Not For Sale team in Washington DC on October 8 - 9/2008 to advocate for more effective implementation of these important T-Visas.

While in DC, you will:

1. Participate in advocacy workshops focused around the principles of "smart activism"
2. Hear from a trafficking survivor
3. Discuss human trafficking with leading public officials and with the NFS team
4. Learn how to "map slavery" in your local region
5. Advocate for an improved T Visa program

Our mission: Make modern-day slavery, trafficking survivors, and the T-visa program priorities in 2008/09 for DC decision-makers.

Not for Sale in Peru: Generación

One of Generación's most dynamic programs revolves around surfing.

A few years ago the harassment against street children -many forced to the streets through the hands and coercion of traffickers- increased and Generación had to take the youngest children away from the reaches of Lima's violence. Generación rents a house in a coastal town about an hour from Lima, and fifteen to eighteen kids live there full-time.

Early on in the surfing program Not for Sale helped by providing surfing equipment so the children could learn how to surf. It is a remarkable scene to head down to the beach late in the afternoon and watch a group of ex-street kids mixing in with the locals. Some of Generación's kids are now entering surfing competitions and performing at a high level.

Surfing has become a meaningful practice that brings physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits. The children are realizing that through surfing they can express themselves, compete, be respected, and connect with nature. The healing process is working and they are doing well in school.

Generación's innovative prevention and aftercare program currently runs with very little economic resources. In the last year they moved three times to smaller houses due to the high rent. The Not for Sale Campaign is helping Generación buy a house, where they can provide the kids with much needed health care, education, and practice their favorite sport.

Join us in raising $100,000 to buy a house and fund aftercare programs for Generación's "surfing tribe" by: DONATING HERE.
